Quentin Horton, USA
Quentin is an American, and has a love of the old-fashioned kinds of things that we also love. He is an Artisan Blacksmith, of course, but also a lover of wild foods, and is one of the relatively few people who hunts whitetails by stalking and still-hunting (sneaking through the woods until you spot a deer and then stalking within lethal range).
Quentin laughingly told me he tries to break everything he makes ... the thinking being that if he can't break something, the customers can't break it either. He makes a variety of items in his shop, and one of the very special techniques he uses is Damascus, the ancient method of producing extremely tough but not brittle metal by repeatedly folding and hammering the stock. Damascus is known for both holding an edge and for its ability to tolerate a side load. Legend has it that the sword of Alexander the Great was made of Damascus Steel. Without doubt, he would have had the finest sword available at the time.
