American Artisan Blacksmith Quentin has a love of the old-fashioned kinds of things we also love. He loves foraging and still-hunting, and wool.
He laughingly told me he tries to break everything he makes, the thinking being that if he can't break it, the customer can't either.
Quentin makes a variety of items in his shop. And one of the very special techniques he uses is Damascus. Damascus is the Ancient Method of producing extremely tough but not brittle metal by repeatedly folding and hammering the stock. Damascus is known for both holding an edge and for tolerating a side load. Legend has it that the sword of Alexander the Great was made of Damascus Steel. Without doubt, he would have had the finest sword available at the time.
